A practical domain maintenance checklist
Combine repeatable lookups with an accurate inventory of your services.
Define the maintenance scope
List the website, API and mail names you use and the providers responsible for each service. Confirm the active DNS host using NS and account records. Do not assume the registrar and DNS host are always the same company.
Check the important entry points
Query addresses, aliases and mail records from that inventory and compare them with expected settings. If a CDN or proxy hides the origin, the public address can differ from the server address. Interpret the result using the provider’s actual design.
Keep a clear change record
Record the reason, old value, new value and planned review time for an edit. Avoid deleting unfamiliar records without evidence. A lookup export preserves a public snapshot but does not replace a control panel backup or account permission management.
This guide explains public DNS responses. Before changing production settings, check the documentation for your current domain and hosting providers.
